2023 Absentee Ballot Applications Available
Absentee ballot applications available.
If you received absentee ballots by mail in 2022 and would like to continue receiving ballots by mail, you will need to complete a new absentee ballot application for 2023. You can request absentee ballots using the OK Voter Portal. Absentee ballot applications are also available for download on the State Election Board website or by contacting your County Election Board.
Voters can request to receive absentee ballots for a single election or all elections in which they are eligible to vote for the calendar year. As a reminder, the Democratic Party has opened its primaries to Independent voters for 2022-2023. Independent voters who would like to receive Democratic Party primary ballots, should be sure to check the appropriate box on their absentee ballot application.
Effective Jan. 1, 2023, certain voters will be required to confirm their address before submitting a request for absentee ballots. More information is available on the State Election Board website.
Voters are reminded that the deadline to request absentee ballots is the third Monday (15 days) prior to each election.
The next election for most voters is Feb. 14. However, some voters will have an election on Jan. 10. The list of upcoming elections is available on the State Election Board website. Absentee ballot requests must be received no later than 5 p.m., December 26 for the January elections.

Pocola boys to play in Mustang tournament
Like the Pocola girls, Pocola’s boys are also playing in a holiday tournament over the holidays.
The Indians open play in the Bank 7 Mustang Holiday Classic which runs from Dec. 28-30.
Pocola opens with the hosts Mustang 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winners while play the Tulsa Washington and Midwest City 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The championship game is 8:30 p.m.
Other teams on the top half of the bracket are Carl Albert, Southmoore, Owasso and Putnam City North.
Poteau Community Christmas Dinner slated
POTEAU - The 2022 Poteau Community Christmas Dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh-Eighth Grade Academic Center Cafeteria.
The meals will be to-go meals only. Patrons can either stop by and get meals or call ahead for either pick-up or delivery by calling Suzette Powers at (918) 649-4163.
There is no charge for the meals. Donations can be made to either Poteau True Value Hardware or the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
LeFlore County weather 12-24-2022
Temperatures will still be cold Saturday, but are slowly going back to normal conditions for this time of the year. Some clouds in the morning, should clear away to clear skies later in the day.
The high will be 30 degrees with a low of 11.
Sunrise is 7:24 a.m. Sunset is 5:12 p.m.
Average temperatures for Dec. 24 are a high of 50 and low of 28. Records for the date were a high of 73 in 1996 and a record low of -6 in 1989.
Last year on this date, the high was 78 with a low of 62.

Obituary for David McConnell
POTEAU - Funeral service for David Harold McConnell, 65 of Poteau is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Cameron with Brother Daylon Duncan and Reverend Tommy Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas, under the direction of Grace Funeral Service of Poteau.
He was born Jan. 21, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas to Modena Flora (Hodge) McConnell and Harold Luther McConnell and passed away Dec. 21, 2022 in Pocola.
Survivors include his father, Reverend Harold McConnell; a daughter, Misty McConnell; granddaughter, Olivia Dixion; and sisters and brother Connie Watling, Bill McConnell, Diania Starnes and Jamie DeWitt.
He was preceded in death by his mother Modena McConnell; and a son Jacob McConnell.
Viewing is Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Cameron.
